Add these Netflix movies to your queue ASAP. Here’s what to watch on Netflix that I’ve been loving.
You know that meme about how much time you spend searching for Netflix movies vs. actually watching Netflix movies? That’s usually how my movie nights end up, and I resort to scrolling on my phone after 20 minutes of searching for something on Netflix to watch.
Not this summer, though! Netflix has created SO. MUCH. awesome original content, from movies to TV shows, and I can’t get enough. I literally have the release dates for the last two written down in my planner and I’m not even embarrassed to admit it (except for the fact that I clearly have a thing for high school rom-coms—stay with me, though).
I’ve been constantly recommending these to my sister and friends, so I thought I’d share them with you guys. Get ready to pull an Olivia Pope and pop some popcorn and a bottle of red for your next Netflix and chill night in.
Netflix-Original Movies to Watch
Alex Strangelove
This movie kind of gave me Love, Simon vibes, so if you saw and loved that (which, you should if you haven’t already), then chances are you’ll like this too. I made Alex watch this one with me, and while he mostly enjoyed teasing me about it, he did make it all the way to the end, which is saying a lot.
Ibiza
Think Bridesmaids meets The Hangover meets Girls. Plus there’s a super hot DJ and Vanessa Bayer from SNL. Need I say more?
The Kissing Booth
Girl is in love with best friend’s hot older brother. Girl sets up kissing booth to make out with said hot older brother. Jealousy and road bumps ensue. Roll your eyes, FINE, but if you love a good high-school throwback movie and have no plans on a Sunday night, it’s actually pretty cute.
Tallulah
Ellen Page and Allison Janney star in this darker take on Juno. Find out what happens when Page ends up accidentally babysitting the daughter of a rich Manhattan housewife with a drinking problem in a hotel. Naturally, things go wrong here.
To the Bone
I loved the realness of this movie about recovering from an eating disorder—and the way it showed how eating disorders rarely look the same and affect everyone differently—starring Lily Collins. Full disclosure: I did feel weird about it because Lily Collins has been open about suffering from an eating disorder herself, and then had to lose a bunch of weight for this role, but she says she was supervised by a nutritionist the entire time and that this was a story she knew she wanted to tell.
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before (August 17)
What happens when all the secret love letters you ever wrote to a crush but never gave them actually get sent out? TBD, but you can absolutely find me watching this next Friday night.
Sierra Burgess is a Loser (September 7)
This one’s my most anticipated movie of the fall. And also the return of BARB from Stranger Things. Another high school movie (seeing a trend here?), except this one is more about owning who you are and learning to be confident in yourself and will make you feel all the feels.
