BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector review: Which BECCA highlighter is right for you, Champagne Pop or Opal?
I’ve been going through a serious highlighting binge, and the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector pressed powders are some of the most beautiful highlighters I’ve ever laid eyes on.
I’d been dying to try Champagne Pop, a collab with makeup artist and YouTube personality Jaclyn Hill, after reading all the reviews and seeing it used in countless tutorials, but of course it was sold out—and had been for weeks. So I went to Sephora to play around with some of the other BECCA shades and fell in love with Opal. But when Champagne Pop came back in stock a few weeks later, I had to pick one up to see what all the hype was about. This holy grail highlighter launched in July 2015 as a limited-edition shade, but earlier this year BECCA Cosmetics announced that it’s now a permanent shade by popular demand.
What it does, according to Sephora.com: “Find refined luminosity in any light. This bestselling formula is enriched with ultrafine luminescent pearls that absorb, reflect, and refract light so your natural radiance is never lost.”
- Champagne Pop is described as a soft white gold with pinky peach undertones.
- Opal is described as a golden opal pearl.
Left: Champagne Pop, Right: Opal
Opal definitely has more pink tones, which blends better with my pink blushes, while Champagne Pop has that peachy undertone that’s universally flattering on all skin tones.
The Verdict: While Opal has been my number-one-go-to-highlighter through the winter and spring, the more golden Champagne Pop is the perfect color for summer. I’ll be wearing this all over my cheekbones, collarbone, shoulders and anywhere else I can in Vegas this weekend and all summer long to get that Victoria’s Secret model glow. The formula is super creamy, goes on smooth, and lasts throughout the day. It’s more glowy than some of the Hourglass highlighters, but still doesn’t look overly shimmery.
Here are a few of my other favorite highlighters to try:
- Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette, $62
- Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder in Euphoric, $38
- Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Bronze, $46
- Benefit High Beam Liquid Face Highlighter, $26
- Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder, $40
- e.l.f Shimmering Facial Whip, $3 (Now on sale for $1!!!! A great drugstore highlighter. Also, it costs ONE DOLLAR.)
