Day 4 of voting was a fun day: wedding cakes, flowers and signature cocktails!
John Corbett and Nia Vardalos were both on the show again this morning, so John and John tasted cakes with Matt Lauer while Kaitlin and Nia talked flowers with Savannah Guthrie.

Out of all the bakeries in New York City, the TODAY Show got celebrity cake maker Sylvia Weinstock, who has baked cakes for Oprah and Martha Stewart, to create a Hollywood-worthy cake for Kaitlin and John.
The first option was “Lace,” a four-tiered white cake with an apricot and cookie filling with red flowers made of sugar. The lace would be designed with the pattern of the bride’s dress in mind, a nice personal touch.
The second cake was “Metallic,” a yellow butter cake with lemon raspberry filling—Weinstock’s favorite flavor. This art deco cake is adorned with metallic gold flowers and leaves. Weinstock suggests saving a flower or leaf from the cake to eventually reuse for their kids’ wedding cakes. So special!
The “Floral” cake is a four-tiered chocolate cake filled with chocolate, caramel and vanilla. The cake is draped with a sweeping bunch of cherry blossoms in honor of the wedding month.
Reactions: How gorgeous is that metallic cake?! It’s so glamorous and just screams Kaitlin. I know she had her heart set on a red velvet cake, but I think this would make up for the loss. And if Sylvia likes it, I’ll like it. I’m just trusting her. The same custom cake company also did Sofia Vergara’s wedding cake, so you really can’t go wrong here. The others are obviously beautiful. I don’t know what a cookie filling is, but I love it. And chocolate and caramel is always a good idea. But the Metallic really “took the cake” for me!

The “Sparkly” bouquets are made from orchids and pink roses, accented with a beaded or crystal stem wrap for a dose of glam. The “Nostalgic” bouquets are made from white calla lillies for the bride and white tulips for the bridesmaids and boutonnieres. The third, “Romantic,” is made from white and blush garden roses, pink spray rose and white and blush tulips.
Reaction: I was torn between the Sparkly and Romantic flowers. Everyone on social media agreed, this one was tough without knowing what the dresses look like. Especially the bridesmaids dresses. If we’re in the blush pink option, the Romantic flowers are an easy choice. If it’s the floral gown, the more white orchid bouquets would be the obvious choice. Tulips are a little too simple for me, so I don’t love them for a bouquet.
Prediction: In the end, I went with the Romantic flowers. Here’s to hoping America voted for the blush bridesmaid dresses to go with it!
After a fun morning of cake and flowers and all things bridal, Kaitlin and John hopped on a bus to spend the weekend in Washington, D.C.—just in time for cherry blossom season! (Is this a sign that cake #3 should be the winner??) Wedding plans are on hold until Monday, so they decided to do a mini weekend getaway while they’re out on the east coast.
Important side note: Kaitlin and John got to meet Bachelor Ben Higgins and his new fiancé Lauren B!!! Ben and Lauren were also making an appearance on the TODAY Show with Hoda and Jenna, so they got to hang out and chat during that morning’s hair and makeup. Ben and Lauren are already moving to Denver together next week! Can’t wait for them to start planning their wedding next.
Disclaimer: My roommate Marie and I may or may not have watching the original My Greek Fat Wedding as I was writing today’s post. Six days and counting!
