We’re officially one week out from the wedding date!
It’s crazy how quickly everything’s been coming along. Yesterday John had his tux fitting—the producers even blindfolded him to help make sure everything America voted for remains a surprise for the big day (including Kaitlin’s dress!).
Kait had her dress fitting this morning, also blindfold, so even she hasn’t seen herself in the dress yet!
Now that the dresses and rings are picked, it’s time to vote for the hair and party favors. The Big Fat TODAY Wedding segment this morning was a special wedding edition of Steals & Deals with Jill Martin. So if you like any of the favors, you can buy them online at a discount for yourself! They showed off three potential party favors: a photo candle, garden tray, and personalized glassware.
Reaction: I love the Shutterfly candles, but think I preferred the last two options because they were more of a permanent keepsake. I actually have one of the Ben’s Garden trays that I got from Nordstrom, and I keep my watches and jewelry on it. It’s great quality and looks so pretty on a dresser or nightstand. Obviously I also love the glassware from The Stationery Studio. A friend at work said he has some glassware from a few weddings he’s been to and that it’s a special memory of the wedding every time he grabs it for a drink. I love that! I didn’t really have a preference on these, and think Kait and John would be happy with any of these awesome options.
And then we were on to the hair!
Option 1: Soft, modern updo
The first look was a soft low bun, slightly messy with a few loose face-framing curls.
Reaction: This was definitely the most “bridal” of the three hairstyles. It was romantic and pretty and the style would hold all through the ceremony and reception. This one was my favorite of the three, and I think it’ll pair beautifully with any of the three dress options. It also seemed to be the favorite on social media, with TODAY Facebook fans’ describing it as elegant, lovely, classy and perfect for a wedding.
Option 2: Long and loose
The show describes this hairstyle as one where the bride can still look like herself but with an extra dose of glam. The classic loose curls/waves were pulled back on each side to frame her face.
Reaction: This one was my second favorite of the three. It definitely made Kaitlin look like herself, but since she’s been wearing her hair like this almost every day on the show, I think it might be fun to have something a little more glamorous for the big day. Either way, you can’t go wrong with classic, beautiful beach waves.
Option 3: Chic bun
This sleek high bun is another trendier alternative to a traditional updo.
Reaction: While I do think this is a chic look for a New York wedding, this is Kaitlin’s classic go-to hairstyle for any event or wedding at home—even to work sometimes! Since she wears it so frequently and can easily recreate it at home herself, I think it might be more special to have something a little more romantic and elaborate for the big day. That being said, it’s definitely a “Kaitlin” look that she would feel comfortable in and look gorgeous no matter what.
Prediction: While I love all the party favors and hairstyles (honestly, no bad options here), my predictions are the personalized glassware party favors and the soft, modern updo hairstyle. No matter what America votes for, I know Kaitlin and John will the thrilled!
After the favors and hairstyles were picked and the dress was fitted, Kaitlin and John rushed off to an interview with Sirius XM Radio, which will air Friday morning, to talk all things wedding. They had the rest of the day off and spent it strolling around New York City, ending the night with a big slice of lasagna at an Italian restaurant near Central Park.
Next up: voting starts tomorrow for the cake, flowers and signature cocktail!
